Helen O'Neil has won several awards and distinctions in the past few years as she continues to establish a professional platform for her work. These distinctions include:
- Funding to attend the 2018 and 2019 annual conferences of the U.S. chapter of the International Society of Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis (ISPS) in Philadelphia, PA and New Haven, CT
- Funding to attend the international conference of the ISPS in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2019, including airfare and lodging
- Funding to attend the SLICE Literary Writers Conference in New York City in September 2019
- Full funding from Catapult (NYC) to take Andrew Martin's Fiction with Teeth in November 2019
- Full funding from the 92Y (NYC) to study with Matthew Thomas in 2020
- Winner, Sidney Baer Foundation Scholarship, 2007-2015
